Last week Borderlands Grappling's Head Coach Owain Williams was awarded his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Checkmat second dan black belt Paul Severn. With average time to black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu taking 10+ year, Owain has joined a short list of others with the same level of recognition within the UK.

The grading ceremony took place at Three Points Martial Arts in Worcester on the 5th December with around 60 BJJ students present. Some other participants were awards belts ranging from blue to brown, with Owain's team mate Keith Coombes also receiving his black belt on the same evening.

Owain had this to say about the evening: "After stepping onto the mats for the first time 15 years ago, it was an honour to receive my black belt from Paul. What made it even more special was that two friends and fellow black belts who I have been training with for over a decade were there to witness it. In fact, Simon Pearce, who has been a long term coach and mentor of mine, was the one who physically awarded me the belt on the evening. It was certainly an evening I will never forget"
