New class report: Women's only BJJ

Last Sunday marked a significant milestone for our academy as we officially launched our first-ever Women’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) class. Held at the Ludlow Primary School (Clee View) hall, the atmosphere was one of focused energy and shared ambition as we opened our mats to a new community of practitioners.

Led by Coach Mel, the session was designed to break down the barriers often associated with combat sports. Mel brings a wealth of technical knowledge and a coaching style that balances the intensity of the sport with an approachable, supportive environment. Her expertise ensured that every participant, regardless of their starting point, felt empowered and capable.

Strength in Small Numbers

The inaugural class was attended by four pioneering women. While the group was intimate, the energy was high. This smaller setting allowed for personalized instruction, ensuring that the foundational movements were understood and executed safely. It was inspiring to see these women step onto the mats and embrace a sport that is as much about mental problem-solving as it is about physical technique.

Open to Every Level

One of the core missions of this new class is inclusivity. Whether you have never grappled before or you are a seasoned grappler looking for a dedicated space to sharpen your skills, this class is for you. We believe that:

  • Beginners benefit from a welcoming, low-pressure environment to learn the basics.

  • Advanced students gain the opportunity to drill specific transitions and spar with varied partners in a dedicated setting.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more than just a martial art; it is a way to build confidence, functional strength, and lasting friendships. We hope to make it easier for local women to find a hobby that challenges them in the best way possible.

If you missed the first session, don’t worry—this is only the beginning. We invite you to come down next Sunday, meet Coach Mel, and see for yourself what the "gentle art" is all about.

You can give our women's only class a try at no cost with a free trial.
