New class report: Borderlands Minis

The mats were buzzing with energy last Sunday as we officially kicked off the first-ever Borderlands Minis session. Designed specifically for children aged 4 to 8 years old, this new program is all about introducing the next generation to the fundamentals of movement, discipline, and teamwork through the lens of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Our inaugural class saw five enthusiastic youngsters take to the mats, ready to see what Borderlands is all about. Under the expert guidance of Head Coach Owain and Assistant Coach Andy, the session was a perfect blend of structure, education, and—most importantly—fun.

A Journey Through the Session

Coach Owain and Coach Andy designed a curriculum that keeps young minds engaged while building physical literacy. The session followed a dynamic flow:

• The Warm-Up: The kids got their heart rates up with movements designed to improve coordination and agility.

• Skill Building: We moved into technical drills where the Minis began learning the "building blocks" of BJJ, focusing on balance and basic positioning.

• Skill-Based Games: This was the highlight of the morning! By turning techniques into interactive games, the kids practiced new skills in a high-energy, competitive, yet safe environment.

• The Cool Down: To wrap things up, the group gathered for a focused cool down, helping them transition from the excitement of the mats back to a calm, focused state.
