Borderlands attends fantastic Jon Thomas guard passing seminar

ree

Yesterday evening, Borderlands Grappling Head Coach Owain, along with students Craig and Pete, had the privilege of attending a special seminar led by Jon Thomas at Three Points Martial Arts in Worcester.

Jon Thomas, IBJJF World Champion (purple and brown belt), renowned for his technical precision and systematic approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, delivered an intensive session focused entirely on the art of guard passing. Over the course of the seminar, he broke down an exciting new guard passing concept before showing attendees some smart ways to apply it in different scenarios.

The seminar was hosted at Three Points Martial Arts’ brand-new facility that boasts two expansive mat areas, a dedicated strength and conditioning zone, and a modern coffee shop space.

For Owain, Craig, and Pete, the opportunity to learn from a coach of Jon Thomas’ calibre was invaluable.

“Guard passing is one of those areas that everyone can always improve on,” said Owain. “Jon’s attention to detail and ability to make complex ideas simple gave us a lot to take back to our own training at Borderlands” adding that "all other Borderlands students should be concerned about playing bottom guard against us now."

As Borderlands Grappling continues to grow, attending seminars like these is a vital part of staying connected to the wider BJJ community and bringing back the best knowledge for our students. A huge thanks to Jon Thomas for sharing his expertise, to Paul Severn for organising the seminar and to Three Points Martial Arts for hosting us.
