Ludlow levels up: BJJ club's first-ever grading and interclub competition

ree

The future of grappling is looking bright at Borderlands as nine students received their first tags on their white belts, marking a significant milestone for the club and its members. The event, the first grading ceremony ever held by the club, was a testament to the hard work and dedication of its students.

The event took place on the 10th of August, just a couple of months after Borderlands marked it's first birthday. Stripes were awarded by BJJ black belt, Head Coach and founder of Borderlands Owain Williams, along with first degree BJJ black belt Simon Pearce.

With just 4 belts in BJJ, and the first belt taking on average 2+ years to achieve, tags are an important mark of students progression

Interclub competition

Following the grading, the club hosted its first-ever in-house competition, providing a friendly yet competitive environment for students to test their skills. Competitors faced off in five-minute rounds, showcasing the techniques they’ve honed on the mats.

Every participant, whether they won or lost, demonstrated incredible sportsmanship. The supportive cheers from teammates and coaches filled the gym, highlighting the strong community spirit that the club prides itself on.

Club social

After the intense action, everyone headed to Ludlow Brewery for a well-deserved social get-together. It was a perfect way to cap off the day, celebrating the students' achievements and the club's growing community. The event was a huge success, reinforcing the bonds between teammates and creating lasting memories.

Borderlands extends its congratulations to all the students who were graded and competed. We look forward to seeing you all continue to grow and succeed on your martial arts journey.
